‘Mother’ Sets New Box Office Record for 2009
“Mother,” the latest film by Bong Joon-ho, drew over 2 million viewers in the 10 days since the release, the record for the shortest period it took a Korean Korean film released this year to reach the benchmark.
Distributor CJ Entertainment said the film had drawn 2.013 million viewers between May 28, the day it was released, and June 6, breaking the record of 14 days set by “My Girlfriend Is an Agent.”
“Mother” broke the 1-million-viewer barrier just four days after its release. It topped the weekend box office from May 29 to 31, edging out “Terminator IV.”
