Lee Jun Ki in “Virgin Snow” press conference

A press conference for the completion of the movie ‘First Snow’ was held in Harajuku of Tokyo on the 5th.

Director Han Sang Hee, the main cast Lee Jun Ki and Miyazaki Aoi, along with Moriyama Naotaro attended.

‘First Snow’ is the love story of high school student Min (Lee Jun Ki) who follows his father, a college professor and potter, to Kyoto and falls in love with Nanae (Miyazaki Aoi) at first site despite the language and cultural barrier.

Miyazaki Aoi commented that she studied Korean very hard while filming, but was able to become closer to Lee Jun Ki because they could not communicate in the same language.

“The language was not an obstacle, but rather an opportunity become closer. Because we could not know or deliver what each other thought without looking at watching them closely, we naturally became close communicating. And when people cannot communicate, they try harder to get to know the other person. I enjoy communicating with those who speak different languages.”

In regards to Miyazaki Aoi’s Korean, Lee Jun Ki commented, “Her pronunciation and accent of the Korean songs I taught her are charming, and she sounds very cute when speaking Korean. Even the atmosphere of the staff around her became brighter. Even if two people cannot communicate, good feelings towards each other can be delivered.”

He introduced ‘First Snow’ as a film that makes the heart warm. But a negative answer came back when asked if he believed in love coming true upon the first snow fall.

“I would like to say I believe it to promote the film, but I personally do not. But I do think that making a promise for when the first snow representing pureness falls brings about happiness. I even get excited thinking perhaps something good will happen when the first snow falls. First snow is like a present.”

Moriyama Naotaro who wrote and performed the theme song ‘Mirai (Future)’ says he fell in love with the movie.

“When watching the film to compose the song, I was constantly worried about their affectionate love. I was barely able to be relieved after seeing the ending. I truly thought it was a good thing.”

Moriyama performed the song live after the introduction.

Lee Jun Ki’s reputation in Japan is expected to rise with the movie ‘First Snow’ which will open on May 21st along with previous films ‘Hotel Venus,’ ‘The King and the Clown,’ and ‘Fly Daddy’ which also were released in Japan’s theatres.

Hmm…this movie has 2 names – Virgin Snow and First Snow. I’m not sure which one is the official English names. Anybody knows? :)

Of all his movies, I only watched “Fly Daddy” and “King and Clown”. Anybody knows where to get the rest of his movies like his debut movie (forgotten the name but he played minor role), the japanese movie (title is something about suicide ><), etc.

As for clip of this press con, I’m sure it’s available somewhere online – find those LJK fan sites :p .

  1. isn’t Hotel Venus Jun Ki’s debut film? it’s actually in Korean … that is the Japanese actors such as Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Miki Nakatani speak in Korean!! i managed to download it quite some time ago but it is in .wmv, so the quality is not that good. unfortunately, i dunno how to rip its dvd together with its subtitle. i’ll try to upload it for you and send it via e-mail … maybe the end of this week. as for Flying Boys, i think u can find it at shareparadise.

  2. eh Im not sure…I only know there’s a film about street skaters and he played minor roles there – it’s korean. I think that’s Flying Boys. I did a check up on the Wiki and both films were made in 2004. Hotel Venus was listed as first so that’s means his debut movie lo :P .

Ah I think I have mixed up that suicide movie with Hotel Venus :D . That suicide movie starred Lee Wan, not Lee Jun-Ki. Gosh, my memory are all jumbled up!

Yup … he did wear those tight attire and dance ‘ballet’ in Flying Boys. Star Echo is one of the short dramas he’s in. i managed to download Jun Ki’s part in that drama from somewhere (his role is veeeery small) but unfortunately there is no subtitle. but if u like, i can upload for u a Drama City in which he acted and he’s the main character in it. it’s titled What Should I Do? and it’s subbed in english. Jun Ki looks really young and cocky in these two dramas (he still had his cute teeth)!! mmm … i think may be your confusion about his first movie is related to this drama cos he did skate in here.

both Hotel Venus and Flying Boys are a 2004 movies but i think he did Hotel Venus first. Star Echo and What Should I Do? are also in 2004.
